* Originally called the Binangonan Municipal Unit Office, Rizal Branch, Region IV, Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) until 1991
* Headed by a Registered Social Worker as a national government employee
* Devolved under Republic Act 7160 (Local Government Code of 1991) where:
- all personnel and their remunerations were placed under the management, control and supervision of the Local Chief Executive
- all office equipment and paraphernalia were placed under the responsibility of the LGU
- all programs and services as originally implemented by the DSWD will be retained and sustained under the LGU
- DSWD shall occasionally exercise technical supervision over the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office programs and activities
- Now officially called the Binangonan Municipal Social Welfare and Development (MSWD) Office
Mission
Provide social protection and promote the rights and welfare of the poor, vulnerable and disadvantaged individuals, family and community to contribute to poverty alleviation and empowerment thru SWD programs, projects and services implemented with or through NGOs, Pos, GOs and other members of civil society.
Functions
- To assist socially disadvantaged families and communities to develop capabilities;
- Promote the welfare of women giving special attention to the prevention and eradication of exploitation of women;
- Implement programs for the care, protection and rehabilitation of children and youth who are neglected, out of school, on the streets or in conflict with the law;
- Provide relief, mitigation, restoration and rehabilitation to victims of natural calamities and social disorganization;
- Provide services on disability prevention, rehabilitation & equalization of opportunities for physically and socially disabled persons;
- Provide services for the elderly and solo parents.
