I. Maternal Health Care

VI. STD Control Program

     Selected health staff attended New Born Screening seminar and organized the NBS team composed of new born screening coordinator and assistant coordinator.

May 11, 2009M - Establishment and accreditation of NBS facility – performing test, supervised and staffed by trained personnel.

New Born Screening – is an essential public health strategy that enables the early detection and management of several congenital metabolic disorders which if left untreated may lead to mental retardation and even death. Early diagnosis and treatment of the disorders can results in normal growth and development of the affected individual. NBS is done by collecting a few drops of blood from the baby’s heel at least 24 hours from birth to 72 hours of life. Collected blood samples are tested for the five disorders congenital hypothyroidism, congenital adrenal hyperplasia, galactosemia, phenylketenuria, G6PD deficiency.

     * Intensify information, education campaign regarding Influenza A H1N1 – for awareness of people about signs & symptoms and prevention of disease, through distribution of hand-outs to all clinics of private physicians, government and private hospitals, public and private primary, secondary and college schools within the entire municipality.

     * Set-up and maintain a functional municipal disease surveillance system equipped with necessary resources. The focus of disease surveillance is to strengthen the capacity of local government units for early detection and response to epidemics, it is also a process of coordinating, prioritizing and strengthening of multiple disease surveillance system into a unified national disease surveillance system that combines our surveillance activities and support functions into a single integrated activity for the purpose of the more efficient and effective in providing timely, accurate and relevant information for action.

* Get referral form from respective barangay (Health Center) from Rural Health midwives.
